It's what Inter-App Audio does on iOS, but Apple never actually implemented a similar system on the Mac, hence the need for Soundflower. Sadly, as MacOS developed and its core systems and code changed significantly, support for Soundflower - which came out in 2004 - became patchy and eventually it stopped working on more recent versions of the OS.

Download Soundflower onto your Mac by opening the Soundflower page on GitHub, scrolling down to “Assets” and clicking on “Soundflower-2.0b2.dmg.” Alternatively, you can download it directly from here. The installer supports nearly all Mac OS X / macOS versions up to 10.14 Mojave currently, so it should work on your system. To record audio playing on your Mac open QuickTime and select New Audio Recording under File tab on the menu bar. Alternatively, you can press Ctrl + opt + cmd + N. Next, click on the small drop-down arrow next to the record button and select the same Soundflower channel as selected in the sound output settings of your Mac i.e. Soundflower (2ch).

The Soundflower extension is signed, but the installer is not! You will have to hold the control key down to open the Soundflower.pkg installer for the first time.

The first time you run the installer (Soundflower.pkg), it will ask for your admin password, and will FAIL! A security alert will appear, with a button to take you to System Preferences Security & Privacy - General pane. The crew crack skidrow download. If you see an Open Anyway button in the Security Preferences, this is something different!!! Most likely because you tried (and failed) opening the installer by double-clicking without holding down the control key. If so, click the Open Anyway button which will display another window. Then click the Open button in that window to launch the installer. Now you can follow the instructions above to get the 'Allow' button to appear in the Security Preferences.

Note

This is only the Soundflower kernel extension. The SoundflowerBed app is retired. Barco is searching for a Soundflower replacement as Soundflower is no longer supported by the developer.

Detailed instructions:

Start the installation of the soundflower plugin and wait until the error message is displayed, do not close the window with the error message at this time.
In the upper left corner of the screen click the Apple logo.
Select System Preferences.. from the context menu.
In the System Preferences window, click the Security & Privacy icon.
In the Security & Privacy window select the General tab at the top if it is not already selected.
Click the Allow button in the lower right corner of the screen, if the Allow button is greyed out please click the lock icon in the lower-left corner of the window and enter your administrative username and password to unlock.
Once the soundflower installer has been allowed you can close the original soundflower installer window and then start the installer again, the software should now successfully install.

Ever since macOS Mojave (10.14), Soundflower, the go to free sound plugin that overcame Apple Quicktime’s inability to include audio to screen recordings has ceased working with subsequent macOS’.

There’s now a fix for this in the form of Existential Audio’s virtual audio driver that allows applications to pass audio to other applications with zero latency.

You first need to download the BlackHole.vx.x.x.pkg from Existential Audio and follow the install process detailed at their BlackHole web site.Once you’ve successfully installed the BlackHole audio driver, all you then need to do is select “BlackHole 16ch” as the output device from your System Preferences > Sound > Output tab:

Alternatively, you can also toggle it from within your Volume menu in your macOS menu bar:

Once you’ve done that, please note that your system will no longer produce any sound output from its ordinary output device, so during your screen recording the system will be mute.

Launch Quicktime and start a New Screen Recording:

Select your recording area and then in the Options menu on the control pane, select BlackHole 16ch under the Microphone preferences:

Click Record to begin your screen recording.
